Digital Conference attracts over 130 business leaders as South West firms embrace AI revolution

Leading tech experts and rugby legend Don Armand inspire packed audience at Exeter’s flagship digital transformation event.

More than 130 business leaders from across the South West gathered at the Exeter College Digital and Data Centre on 18 June for the Tech South West Digital Conference, eager to learn about AI implementation and digital transformation strategies.

The event featured standing-room-only workshops as SMEs sought practical guidance on harnessing artificial intelligence, building high-performance digital teams, and transforming data into revenue-driving insights.

Former England international rugby player Don Armand delivered the keynote address on staying human in an AI-powered world, drawing on his experience as founder of Identity Human leadership consultancy. AI ethics expert Chris Phippen explored how emerging technologies are reshaping business landscapes.

Two dynamic panel discussions sparked discussions about AI’s role in business and society throughout the day, as well as looking at the digital skills businesses need.

Workshops included AI-focused sessions delivered by Program, Rocketmakers and  Stephens Scown; talent acquisition with Microsoft, Insight HR and ISL Talent; digital transformation with Pragma Holis, Elixel and Ghyston; cyber security with CyberFirst South West, Timewade and SWCSC; and governance frameworks with Howden and Moon Exec Search & Ashford

Dan Pritchard, Founder of Tech South West, said: “The overwhelming response to the Digital Conference shows South West businesses are ready to embrace the digital transformation and the AI revolution, but they need practical, human-centred approaches. We saw a genuine hunger for actionable strategies that deliver measurable business results, whilst maintaining the human element that makes great companies thrive.”

Ian MacIver, Client Director at Howden, said: “It was a brilliant event highlighting the incredible depth of digital talent in the South West. There were energising conversations around AI adoption, start-up funding, and go-to-market strategies for early-stage businesses.”

The conference addressed five key areas: implementing AI solutions that deliver tangible business outcomes, building high-performance digital teams, executing revenue-impacting digital projects, transforming data into growth engines, and establishing secure digital foundations.

The event was delivered with Event Partners Howden, Microsoft, South West Business Council, and the South West Institute of Technology.
