First ever region-wide corporate esports festival comes to the South West

During February half term 2022, Exeter College and Tech South West are hosting an entire afternoon of competitive gaming with big businesses and organisations from across the South West.

Held at the newly built digital and data centre at Exeter College on Thursday 24 February, with its high specification gaming PCs, monitors and peripherals in a top level room made for gaming, sixteen teams of three will play competitive Rocket League and battle it out to be crowned the winners of the South West’s first ever region-wide corporate esports event.

The event is organised by Tech South West and hosted by Exeter College. We are proud to have Astley Media, Filmily, Rowe IT, Jurassic Fibre and Timewade as event sponsors. Game on!

Esports gamerEsports – what is it?

If you haven’t heard of esports then it’s time to get on board – and fast. The next generation is turning esports into one of the most rapidly growing industries worldwide. With large scale competitions taking place across the world and big prize money to be won, it is watched by millions of fans.



Esports (or electronic sports) is a term used to describe competitive video gaming, where players are pitted against each other to win multiplayer games. Professional teams usually have coaches, analysts and managers who help to get the most out of the players and organise strategies. Games regularly played in these competitions are Rocket League, League of Legends and Fortnite.

When and Where?

From 1-8pm on Thursday 24 February

The festival will be held in the state-of-the-art digital and data centre at Exeter College, home to the Esports Academy. Esports courses are delivered here for students who wish to develop their skills in the business and management of esports.

Dinner will be provided in Exeter afterwards to celebrate and relive the best moments of the day.

How can I watch?

The event will be livestreamed via the Exeter College Esports Academy Twitch channel.

There’s no need to make an account – just follow that link on the day and enjoy the action.

Playing will take place from 2pm until around 5pm.

Exeter College 

Exeter College has won two prestigious Times Educational Supplement Further Education Awards and been ranked ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. The college launched its dedicated academy in 2021 alongside an esports course for over 18s who wish to develop their skills in the business and management of esports.

The college also has one of the UK’s most successful competing teams, having won gold at the British Esports Championships 2020-21 LAN finals in July 2021.

Exeter College has recently been awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for embedding digital technology through curriculum innovation. The development of esports at the college was recognised in this prestigious accolade.
