The founder of Cornwall tech firm Headforwards has been announced as the new chairman of Tech South West.
Toby Parkins has over 25 years experience working in the tech sector, founding director of Headforwards, founder of the Agile on the Beach conference and Software Cornwall and president of the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce.
Toby has been on the steering group at Tech South West, which helps connect and showcase technology firms across the region, since the start of this year.
He said: “I’m delighted to take on this role at Tech South West. The growth and strength of the tech industry in the South West continues apace. Without a doubt we have the opportunity for different companies and organisations to work together to create a UK standard of excellence in technology.
”We will be focusing on connecting companies across the region, and helping to showcase and celebrate the incredibly rich diversity of organisations that are both part of the tech community and the wider economy.”
As part of its efforts to showcase and celebrate the successes of the region’s fast-growing technology sector, Tech South West is also set to announce plans for its first ‘Show and Tell’ event in Exeter in November.
The event will give technology firms the chance to showcase their expertise, products and services, and connect with potential customers, suppliers and partners across the region.
Nick Sturge, South West Chairman for the Institute of Directors has also joined the Tech South West Steering Group.
He said: “I am delighted to have been asked to help steer Tech South West in its formative stage. Collaboration and cooperation, especially across competitive boundaries, is so important in today’s ever-changing economic and political environment. The South West has huge strengths and working together to help promote those strengths to help businesses across the region secure more business and the sub-regions more profile, has to be good.”
Graham Austin, Head of SME South West, Business Banking at Barclays, said: “Barclays is delighted to be involved with the next chapter in the growth of Tech South West. In today's rapidly changing economic world, increasing numbers of cutting-edge businesses are being established, by enterprising people who are quickly able to turn a vision into a reality, and that reality into a business of great scale and value.
“We are looking forward to being actively involved as a corporate sponsor and deploying our resource across the South West to support its members.”
